Our Story
Chambers is located in southern Holt County along Nebraska Highway 95. Chambers is a rural community with a population of two hundred fifty-eight residents. The majority of district patrons are involved with agriculture. Most other employment is found in O’Neill which is twenty-three miles northeast of the community. The school district boundaries encompass portions of Holt, Garfield, and Wheeler counties. The population of the school district and community has declined over the past ten years. Cattle ranching and hay production are the main components of the local ag economy. Over the past ten years, land valuation in the district has increased exponentially. This has resulted in a lower tax levy for district patrons while also eliminating virtually all state aid from the Nebraska Department of Education. The district houses kindergarten through twelfth grade students in one building. The elementary portion of the building was constructed in 1938. There have been no recent updates or additions to the facility. The elementary was originally the high school as students went to school at a country school or off-site location. The elementary side of the building currently houses grades kindergarten through sixth grade in addition to the SPED and Title departments. Chambers has one teacher per grade level through sixth grade and offers full day, every day kindergarten. The high school portion of the building was added on in 1969. This addition included: a administrative offices, a library, secondary classrooms, gymnasium, locker rooms, and an STS classroom. There have been no recent additions or renovations to the building. Chambers Public schools is staffed by a superintendent, one principal, one guidance counselor/ librarian, nineteen teachers, and fourteen non-certified staff members. The student/ teacher ratio is 7:1. Over ninety percent of the staff members teach in their endorsed area. Chambers Public Schools has five separate school improvement committees that address the needs for continuous improvement. These committees are: 1) Steering Committee 2) Building and Ground Committee 3) Technology Committee 4) Data and Curriculum Committee and 5) Student Experience Committee. Members of the various committees include administrators, staff members, school board members, and patrons. These committees work in conjunction with one another to ensure that the needs of the district are being met. |
